The
Texas League of the South will award the William Barret
Travis Medal to one or more citizens of this State who
have distinguished themselves in service to Texas and
the South during the preceding year.
A
recipient's actions must exemplify the Texas spirit of
toughness, individualism and devotion to duty.
Such actions must be carried out in a way that
raises public awareness of this State's traditions, and
of her strong ties to the South as a whole.
A medal recipient must act with forthright
courage to uphold and defend our birthright and our
freedoms.
Candidates
for the award must embody the fearless, uncompromising
patriotism of those Texans who, time and time again,
have stood up and fought for principle and for liberty.
Nominees must show forth, both in word and in
deed, the spirit of the Alamo and of San Jacinto – the
same spirit that animated the Texas Rangers and Hood's
Texas Brigade.
The
Travis Medal recipient's actions must, above all, meet a
high and noble standard that inspires others to perform
similar deeds.
To
be considered for the award, a nominee's actions must be
performed during the 12-month period beginning and
ending 30 days before the Texas League of the South's
annual state conference
Since
the award is based on meeting a set standard, more than
one person could receive the medal in a given year.
If, on the other hand, no one meets this
standard, then no award will be given that year.
Nominees
need not be members of the Texas League of the South –
simply Texas patriots.
